The preserve is a 15.8 acre native woodlot containing 1.4 miles of hiking trails, as well as a grove of Pawpaw trees and natural seating area near a vernal pool. Numerous spring and summer wildflowers can been seen on the forest floor.

Lock 14 Park is a 5.3 acre grassy picnic area including a paved parking lot and direct hiking access to the Miami Erie Canal Towpath trail. It features a restored concrete canal lock with terrific views of the canal waters looking north and south.

Deep Cut Historical Park is a 18.5 acre park that includes a paved parking lot, picnic shelter and direct hiking access to the Miami Erie Canal Towpath trail. Deep Cut is the location where the greatest excavation of the canal was made.

The Miami & Erie Canal was built between 1825 and 1845, an engineering marvel stretching from Cincinnati to Toledo. This canal was heavily used until competition from the railroad caused the decline of the canal system.
